Alim is a classical pianist from Kazakhstan who burst onto the international scene by winning first prize in the prestigious Leeds International Piano Competition in September 2021.

His performance of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini was commended for giving this well-worn piece “new life with his infusion of passion and power” by critics. He also scooped the Medici.tv audience prize and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society Prize for performance of a 20th/21st century work in the same competition.

Born in Kazakhstan in 1998, Alim studied at the Central Music School Moscow before moving to the Purcell School for Young Musicians in the UK. He won several prizes during his time at the Purcell School including First Prize at the Junior Cliburn International Competition in the USA. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and is currently completing his master’s degree at the Royal College of Music.

Recent highlights include debuts with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, RCM Symphony Orchestra and SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart. He has given recitals at the Southbank Centre, Oxford Piano Festival, Bath Mozartfest, St George’s Bristol, and Chopin Institute in Warsaw, and has made tours of Europe and Korea.
