Besma is a prominent figure in the world of sustainable fashion. Through her blog, Curiously Conscious, which she founded and authors, she has made a significant impact on the ethics and mindfulness behind consumption.
Improving fast-fashion has long been a passion of Besma’s, but her journey into sustainable practices began, as she explains, with food. While thinking about the provenance of her meals, Besma also began researching the origins of the clothes she liked to wear.
Besma says that her ethos is “to look for the better things in life”, including being better for the planet, better for others, and better for the self.
Over the course of the last decade, Besma has taken on numerous initiatives, including a rental system for clothes and a clothes swap, as well as being chosen as an ambassador for DEFRA’s Year of Green Action in 2019.
She is also the founder and director of Ethical Influencers, a digital collective of do-gooders focussing on promoting sustainability in all walks of life.
More recently, Besma was selected as a curator for Brighton’s first Sustainable Fashion Week, which ran from September 25 until October 1 2023, which gained widespread praise in both the local and national press.
