Campbell is a photographer filmmaker who has broken down the barriers of photography and modelling by focussing on under-represented groups in his stunning work. His subjects cross the boundaries of race, gender, ethnicity and nationality.
Campbell was brought up in South London but ran away from home after his brother outed him as gay and he feared he would be sent to Ghana to live with his Muslim father. He was taken in by the Albert Kennedy Trust and was fostered by a gay artist who encouraged him to pursue an artistic career.
Campbell enrolled in Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and since graduating has been making waves throughout the art world. Unable to find the sort of representation he wanted to see in shoots, he set up his own publication, Niijournal, which quickly became noticed. He later set up his own modelling agency, changing the face of fashion photography.
He has since shot for British Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Dazed and has featured sensitive and highly acclaimed portraits of Kendall Jenner, FKA Twigs, and Tyler, the Creator. He has published a book called “Feeling Seen” as he says he often didn’t feel seen in the industry.
Campbell was featured in Forbes 30 under 30 2021 and won British Fashion Awards in 2018 and 2019.
