Julia Matthews is a Vice President at Peloton Interactive where she has established and leads the company’s first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) team. With almost two decades of experience working at the intersection of strategy and equity, Julia has played a pivotal role in driving Peloton’s sustainability and social impact strategy. Julia has defined an ambitious ESG framework for Peloton, setting targets for carbon emissions reduction, circularity and social impact. She formalised Peloton’s commitment to emissions reduction by aligning with the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and has implemented innovative circularity strategies that include product serviceability, refurbishment, leasing programs and end-of-life solutions. Under her guidance, Peloton has enhanced transparency through robust ESG reporting such as disclosures of emissions data for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, alongside other vital disclosures, for example the UK Modern Slavery Statement. She has also crafted the company’s initial submission to the Carbon Disclosure Project, demonstrating Peloton’s commitment to emissions reduction. As a key member of Peloton’s leadership, Julia chairs the ESG Steering Committee and works closely with the board of directors, CEO and other executives. As a direct result of Julia’s leadership, Peleton continues to position itself as a global leader in corporate sustainability and community engagement.
