Ranjit Baxi FRSA is the king of recycling. He is recognised as a global expert in the recycling industry, challenges current thinking and travels all over the world at his own expense to galvanise support for his campaigns against climate change. He contributes to international trade journals and has delivered presentations to governments, regulators, public interest groups and the media to foster good practice on waste management. His brilliant entrepreneurship at the helm of recycling businesses over 45 years has given him the standing to rise to the top of professional bodies where he has served pro bono. He originated the term that recycling is the Earth’s seventh resource (after water, air, coal, oil, natural gas and minerals.) His mantra is: Turn rubbish into raw materials for a greener and safer planet. Among his many achievements, Global Recycling Day (GRD) is perhaps the most visible, a worldwide campaign that he conceived, launched in 2017 and has grown to reach 2.3 billion people. Today GRD is celebrated in over 60 countries. He is also a past President of the Bureau of International Recycling and created the World Council of Recycling Associations as a United Nations of Recycling.
