Through his role as CEO of Alcohol Change UK, Dr Richard has shown time and time again that he is a dedicated champion of public health and social reform.
Before takingon his role with Alcohol Change UK in 2017, Richard had collaborated with charities Mencap, NCVO and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and has now enjoyed a career in the non-profit sector that spans close to three decades.
The ambition at Alcohol Change UK is to strive towards a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol, while Richard personally hopes to improve the world through people-powered change.
Under Richard’s stewardship, Alcohol Change UK has helped to deliver a wide range of initiatives, from advocacy and education, to support services and research programmes.
Richard has often spoken openly and bravely about his own psychological battles with alcohol reliance and, in September 2023, he was featured in the Telegraph, providing useful tips for those struggling with alcohol dependency.
While he is not anti-alcohol, Dr Richard is an advocate for alcohol change and has described his involvement as a privilege.
Aside from his professional roles, Richard is also a trustee of the Children’s Chronic Arthritis Association and is a dedicated volunteer for St Albans Woodcraft Folk.
