Romilly Greenhill is a globally recognised anti-poverty champion and a leading expert in aid, debt and development finance. She is committed to ensuring aid transparency and using debt relief to fund vital development projects. As the UK director of The ONE Campaign, she has led successful campaigns on global health, education and development finance.
Previously Romilly was a Senior Research Fellow and Team Leader at the Overseas Development Institute, where she headed their work on financing the Sustainable Development Goals and the ‘Leave No-One Behind’ agenda. She also ran the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) at DfID, embedding effectiveness throughout the department’s work.
Romilly started her career at the Ugandan Finance Ministry, where she was responsible for allocating the money gained through debt cancellation to education and health. She campaigned for these issues at the New Economics Foundation and ActionAid. She was also a policy expert for the 2005 Make Poverty History campaign, helping to secure historic agreements on aid and debt cancellation. She has worked as a Governance Advisor, Southeast Asia for ActionAid, supporting advocacy and campaigns across the region, especially in Cambodia.
Romilly has been named as the next chief executive of international aid sector organisation Bond. She takes up her role at Bond in November 2023.
