Stephen Telling has been a dynamic leader in the UK coach industry for nearly five decades, and most recently has been responsible for transforming the UK Coach Operators Association into a truly national trade organisation. As founder and managing director of Tellings Golden Miller (TGM), Stephen led the company through remarkable growth, twice building fleets of over 500 vehicles, which he sold to major players National Express and Arriva. Throughout his career, Stephen has dedicated himself to supporting coach operators nationwide through his roles with industry associations, including the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), the UK Coach Operators Association (UKCOA), and the Guild of British Coach Operators. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Stephen led the UKCOA in its advocacy for the coach sector, fostering resilience within the industry, helping operators adapt to a changing landscape by providing resources and support on crisis management and compliance. Under his leadership, UKCOA has expanded its reach, rebranding and growing to over 100 members. Recent initiatives include developing a driver apprenticeship programme with the Department for Work and Pensions, improving accessibility regulations, and leading efforts to transition the coach industry to zero emissions.
