Dr Sumit Mitra’s leadership journey – from a small city in India to leading some of the world’s most complex global business operations – has been shaped by his belief that business success and social progress must advance together.
As CEO of BT Global Business Services, he drove large-scale transformation across multiple countries, simplifying and modernising operations while establishing a global innovation hub in India along with nine others worldwide. These hubs played a key role in supporting the UK’s digital infrastructure expansion and transformation.
In 2017, Sumit joined Tesco at a pivotal moment to rebuild trust and reimagine its global business services model. He founded and scaled Tesco Business Solutions (TBS), which now underpins much of Tesco’s operational backbone. Spanning Finance, supplier management, store architecture, global recruitment, payroll, pensions, supply chain, and advanced analytics and AI, TBS has become integral to how Tesco serves customers at scale. Through automation, AI, and data-led decision-making, his teams strengthened resilience, transparency, and operational excellence.
He also founded OmniSol, Tesco’s B2B subsidiary, enabling partners to access proven operating models and technology-enabled services with a focus on ethical governance and long-term value. Beyond corporate leadership, he mentors emerging leaders and founded AgrinNext to support sustainable rural livelihoods in India.
