Trevor is renowned world-wide as a harpsichordist, conductor and pioneer in the modern revival of early music performance. He was awarded the CBE in 1992 for services to music and was made an Officier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 1998. In 1966 he co-founded the Galliard Harpsichord Trio with Stephen Preston and Anthony Pleeth. This expanded to become the English Consort in 1972 which he directed from the keyboard for the next 30 years, building the orchestra’s reputation for their performances on period instruments. In Leonard Bernstein’s words: “The work of the conductor Trevor Pinnock in this area is particularly exciting – his performances of Bach and Handel make me jump out of my seat!” He is a former artistic director and principal conductor of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra; founded The Classical Band in New York; and is a frequent guest conductor with leading orchestras in the USA and Europe. Since leaving The English Concert in 2003, he has divided his work between conducting, solo and chamber music engagements and educational projects at the Royal Academy of Music where he is Principal Guest Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra. He has won many awards for his performances including a Gramophone Award for his recording of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos with the European Brandenburg Ensemble.
