Yomi is an award-winning journalist and best-selling author who writes about race, popular culture and feminism.
Born in London, she has a Nigerian heritage and studied law at Warwick University. While at university her interest in journalism flourished and she founded a publication called Birthday Magazine for black teenage girls.
She now writes articles on culture for the Guardian, the Independent and Vogue magazine; and has freelanced for online women’s magazine The Pool.
Published in 2018, her bestselling book Slay in your lane: The Black Girl Bible, co-written with author Elizabeth Unviebinené, includes interviews with several accomplished black women including writer Malorie Blackman OBE and musician Estelle Fanta Swaray. Regarded as guide to life for black women, the book also provides advice on work, education, money, dating and health.
Such was the impact of the book that Yomi was named as one of the most influential people in London by the Evening Standard in 2018 and Groucho Maverick and Marie Clare Future Shaper awards soon followed. As an acclaimed non-fiction writer, in 2021 she was included in the Forbes 30 under 30 list in the media section.
More recently, Yomi wrote Black Love, a comedy documentary, for Black History month presented by comedian Mo Gilligan on Channel 4.
